VISION:
Our vision is one of peaceful coexistence. Film, television, the new media, and other dramatic arts are powerful tools that can be used for the purpose of establishing peace, coexistence, and community.
MISSION:
The mission of the Forest Creatures Foundation is to build an enduring legacy of peace, coexistence, and community through the use of film, television, the new media, and other dramatic arts.
The dramatic arts have a unique experiential understanding of conflict and its resolution. The Foundation will seek to further understand how to use this to establish an authentic peace.
Independent film, television, and other media have a unique cultural impact which the Foundation will support to further establish its vision.
EXPLANATION:
The Foundation recognizes a broad interpretation of “Peace,” peace with self, peace with the natural and social environments, peace between peoples of differences (different races, different classes, different sexes, etc.), peace between nations and other political distinctions, and an interglobal peace within our universe.
GOALS AND ACTIVITIES:
The goal of the Forest Creatures Foundation is to support an interface of independent media with the established media and entertainment industries as this relates to the vision and mission of the Foundation. Special attention will be paid to children, healing the victims of abuse and neglect, and how “it takes a village” to accomplish the vision and mission of the Foundation. Activities are being developed in the following program areas:
- EDUCATION
The core program will be an undergraduate education “off-campus” program that will include an internship as well as academic studies in film and media studies, story, and the dramatic arts. The curriculum will relate the art, craft, and business of film and media to the vision and mission of the Foundation. An association with an established university is currently in discussion. Plans also include an annual “Academy,” community education, a fellowship program, and more. - FILM FESTIVAL AND CONFERENCE
The Forest Creatures Foundation plans to produce an annual film festival and conference that explores and exhibits film, television, and new media that work to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of the Foundation. Interns involved with the core educational program will play an integral role in helping to actualize this event. This will take place near the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. - PRODUCTION
The Foundation will support production and post-production and plans to offer development “seed” grants and distribution grants for independent media that furthers and supports the vision, mission, and the core educational program of the Foundation. - WEB
The foundation will oversee forestcreatures.com.
